Do you long for a safe space? Connections with other women who love Jesus and a place where you can come to engage with others without fear or shame? A space to be heard and to listen? Where people ask good questions and wait patiently for your answers? If that sounds like something you crave, you are not alone. I do too… so do many of my friends.
Pre-COVID, women’s events were regularly hosted after hours at the coffee shop we own in the center of our town. When COVID hit we were among the first to move to an online platform intent on keeping the community active. Years later we had paused online yet still not restored in-person groups. In speaking with some of the women who’d attended in the past, I heard profound weariness in their voices. As I probed deeper, I learned that they were feeling isolated and lonely in their Christian walk and deeply desired the opportunity to reconnect with women from the wider Church in an intimate way.
Next Saturday we will host the first of eight monthly women’s events being held after hours on the FIRST SATURDAY NIGHT of each month at Silk City Coffee. It will be called GATHER for Women.
Why “GATHER”?
“Gather – (verb) Bring or come together from a spread-out or scattered state (Adv/prep) To put your arms around someone and hold or carry them in a careful or loving way.” (Cambridge Dictionary)
God’s Word also reminds us of the importance of gathering:
“We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming.” Hebrews 10:25 (God’s Word Translation)
During a time where we are feeling scattered, lonely and in need of a place where we will be welcomed and encouraged with open hearts and arms, Gather for Women will be focused on providing a safe space for women who love Jesus to come together and grow in their relationship with Him and each other.
Speakers will be sharing on a variety of topics. There will be time for prayer and personal reflection, as well as opportunities to connect with other women just like you! Some months may include artist spotlights and personal testimonies to further enhance the experience. Gather for Women will also offer emerging artists and speakers the opportunity to hone their craft by inviting them to apply to share during one of our events. (More details to come.) We will be taking a love offering to pay for those who speak as well as providing coffee and snacks for those who attend.
