Before we begin, imagine this as a kind of virtual coffee date.
If we could meet in person, we might be sitting together at Silk City Coffee. You’d have your favorite drink in hand, maybe hot, maybe iced. We’d settle into a comfortable seat, take a breath, and talk honestly about life and faith and what it looks like to walk with Jesus right where we are.
Since we can’t all meet around the same table, this space becomes our gathering place instead. So if you’d like, bring a drink you enjoy. Find a comfortable spot. Have your journal, a pen, and your Bible if you have one. Then let’s begin together, opening the Word of God and seeing what Jesus has for us.
The beginning of a new year often carries a quiet pressure to improve, resolve, fix, or become. Even when our intentions are good, we can find ourselves bracing for effort before we’ve even taken a breath.
But before anything grows, it must be rooted.
Roots do not rush. They settle. They anchor. They receive what is already being offered.

As we begin Rooted and Radiant, we start here. Not with plans or productivity, but with presence. Growth does not begin with striving. It begins with safety.
Jesus never asks us to earn rest. He invites us into it.
This first Mindful Monday is not about doing more or trying harder. It is about coming. About allowing yourself to arrive just as you are and letting Jesus meet you there, inviting you into the rest only He can give.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 11:28–30 (MSG)
Pause and Reflect
Take a moment to talk with Jesus about what you just heard from the Word. If you need ro re-listen a few times, do it! Then journal your thoughts.
You might reflect on one of these prompts, or simply write what rises in your heart:
- What feels heavy as I begin this year
- Where am I tired in my body, mind, or soul
- What would it look like to come to Jesus without trying to fix myself first
There is no right answer here. This is a conversation, not an assignment.
Soul Care Practice: Resting in His Invitation
Find a comfortable place to sit. Place one hand over your heart and one over your abdomen. Take a slow breath in through your nose and an unhurried breath out through your mouth. Remember that our breath is a gift of love from God.
As you breathe, gently repeat this breath prayer:
- Inhale: Jesus, I come
- Exhale: I receive Your rest
Repeat this for a few minutes, allowing your shoulders to soften and your body to release tension. If your mind wanders, gently return to the prayer without judgment.
Rest is not something you achieve. It is something you receive.
Pray With Me
Jesus,
I come to You just as I am.
I bring the places where I feel tired, guarded, or unsure.
Help me to rest in Your presence and receive what I cannot earn.
Root my heart in Your love and steady me in Your peace.
Teach me to begin again with You, trusting that You are gentle and near.
In Your precious name, Amen.
Carry It With You
Today, notice moments when you feel pressure to hurry, prove, or perform.
When you catch yourself, pause and quietly pray:
Jesus, I receive Your rest.
Let that gentle receiving be your anchor as you move through the day.
As you finish up your coffee and your time with Jesus, know that you don’t have to carry this moment alone. If you’d like, I’d love to hear what stirred in your heart today. You’re welcome to share anything you feel comfortable sharing by responding to this blog. It’s a gift to walk this journey together.
