Mindful Mondays: Time With Jesus – Rooted and Radiant Week Two: Rooting – God Is For You

Before we begin, take a moment to settle in.

If you’d like, imagine this as another coffee date together. Maybe you’re refilling your mug, adjusting your seat, or taking a deep breath after a full morning. Just as we might if we were sitting together at Silk City Coffee, let yourself arrive without rushing. There’s no agenda to prove today – only space to be present.

Many of us carry a quiet assumption that God is watching us closely, waiting for us to get it right. Even when we know the language of grace, our nervous system often tells a different story. We brace. We try. We prove. We perform.

But Scripture tells a better story.

Before God ever asks anything of us, He reveals something true about Himself: God is love. And that love is not distant or theoretical. It has a face, a name, and a moment in history.

Rooting begins as we learn to see God not as withholding or suspicious, but as the One who moved toward us first. Love did not begin with our response. Love began with God sending His Son so that we might live through Him.

When we encounter God this way, fear begins to loosen its grip. Not all at once, and not through force, but through being met again and again by a love that does not retreat.

This week, we are invited to receive that love slowly. To let it be spoken over us before we try to reflect it outward. To remember that love is not something we manufacture, but something we receive and then live from.

Scripture Reading

1 John 4:7–19

Pause and Reflect

Take a moment to talk with Jesus about what you just heard from the Word. Re-listen if it’s helpful. Journal your thoughts.

You might gently consider:

  • What words or phrases stood out to me as I listened
  • Where do I notice fear, hesitation, or guarding in my relationship with God
  • What would it look like to receive God’s love before trying to give it away

There is no need to rush. Love settles in its own time.

Soul Care Practice – Receiving God’s Love

Place one hand over your heart and take a slow, steady breath.

As you breathe, quietly pray:

  • Inhale: God, You love me
  • Exhale: I receive Your love

If fear, doubt, or resistance arises, simply notice it without judgment. Let the truth of God’s love meet you where you are, not where you think you should be. Invite Him to flow His love into you and form His love within you, in greater measure.

Remain here for a few minutes, allowing your body and soul to rest in what has been spoken.

Pray With Me

Jesus,
Thank You for loving me first.
When fear rises or I feel the need to protect myself, remind me that You moved toward me in love.
Help me receive Your love before trying to give it away.
Let Your perfect love quiet my heart and teach me to live from trust instead of fear.

In Your precious name, Amen.

Carry It With You

Today, when fear or self-protection shows up, pause and ask yourself:
What would it look like to respond from love instead of fear?

Let that question guide you gently as you move through the day.

As you finish up your coffee and your time with Jesus, know that you don’t have to carry this moment alone. If you’d like, I’d love to hear what stirred in your heart today. You’re welcome to share anything you feel comfortable sharing by responding to this blog. It’s a gift to walk this journey together.
