As you settle in today, imagine lingering a little longer at the table.
The coffee has cooled. The conversation has slowed. There’s no rush to move on.
Some truths need time. They aren’t meant to be skimmed or hurried. They’re meant to be received – slowly, gently, with space to sink in. Today you’ll be given the opportunity to do just that.
John’s Gospel opens with words that are familiar to many of us. And yet, these words carry a depth we can only receive when we slow down enough to listen.
This week, we don’t analyze Scripture or rush to application. We practice letting the Word meet us – just as we are.

Like turning your face toward the light and letting it warm you, we allow truth to be received, not forced.
Take the time to pause and listen (maybe a few times) to this slightly longer passage of scripture. As you do, invite Jesus to speak directly to your heart through it:
Scripture Reading
John 1:1–14 (NIV)
Pause and Reflect
Read the passage slowly. You may want to read it (or re-listen to it) more than once.
You might consider and perhaps take the time to journal:
- Which word or phrase stands out to me today?
- What feels comforting or challenging in this passage?
- What might God be inviting me to receive, rather than do?
Soul Care Practice – Lectio Divina (Gentle Reading)
Choose one or two verses from today’s passage.
Read them slowly, aloud if possible.
Pause and notice which word or phrase draws your attention.
Sit quietly with that word or phrase, allowing it to settle in your heart.
You don’t need to understand it fully. Simply receive it. Feel free to journal your response.
Close by thanking God for His Word and His nearness.
Pray With Me
Jesus,
Thank You for being the Word made flesh, dwelling with us.
Help me slow down enough to receive truth with an open heart.
Let Your light meet me where I am today.
I receive what You desire to give.
In Your precious name,
Amen.
Carry It With You
As you move through your day, return to the word or phrase that stood out to you.
Let it echo quietly in your heart as a reminder of God’s presence with you.
As you finish your coffee and this time with Jesus, remember – truth transforms us not through urgency, but through presence. I’ll save you a seat again next Monday as we continue this journey together – I’m so grateful to join you in it!
