Mindful Mondays: Time With Jesus Rooted and Radiant – Week Fourteen Tending: Strengthening What Is Taking Root

There is a quiet kind of growth that often goes unnoticed at first.
It doesn’t feel dramatic or immediate.
It happens slowly, beneath the surface, as something begins to take root.

Maybe you’ve noticed that this week.

Small moments where you remembered to pause.
Moments where you returned to what is true.
Moments where something felt just a little more steady than before.

And maybe there were also moments where you forgot.
Where old thoughts resurfaced.
Where familiar patterns felt easier to return to.
All of that is part of the process.

Growth does not happen all at once.
The strength of a root isn’t formed in one moment.
It is formed through staying.

Over the past few weeks, you’ve been gently tending the soil of your heart.

You’ve begun to notice what has been beneath the surface.
You’ve started releasing what you were never meant to carry.
You’ve begun receiving what is true.

Now, something new is beginning to take root.
But new roots need time.

They are strengthened not through pressure, but through returning.
Through coming back again and again to what is true, even when it doesn’t feel natural yet.

This is where many of us feel tempted to give up or move on too quickly.

We want growth to feel steady right away.
We want change to feel permanent.

But God works more gently than that.
He invites us to remain.

Scripture Reading

Let these words settle into your heart slowly.

Psalm 1:1-3 NIV

Pause and Reflect

Take a few moments to sit with what you noticed from Scripture. You may want to journal or reflect quietly.

You might consider:

  • What truth have I found myself returning to this week?
  • Where have I noticed even small shifts in my thoughts or responses?
  • When I drift or forget, how do I usually respond to myself?
  • What might it look like to gently return instead of striving to get it right?

Soul Care Practice – Returning and Remaining

This week, we practice staying with what God has already begun.
Begin by becoming still. Take a slow breath and quiet your heart before God.

Bring to mind the truth you’ve been practicing over the past week. It may be a word, a phrase, or a simple reminder of who God is and who you are in Him.

You don’t need to choose something new.
This week is about returning.

When you notice yourself drifting – whether into old thoughts, familiar emotions, or patterns you’ve been learning to release – pause gently.

There is no need to judge yourself.
Simply come back.

You might pray:

“Jesus, I return to You.
Help me remain in what is true.”

Then return to the truth you’ve been practicing.
Picture yourself putting it on again, just as you did before.
Even if it feels small.
Even if it only lasts a moment.

Each time you return, something is being strengthened within you.
Over time, what once felt unfamiliar will begin to feel steady.

Carry It With You

As you move through your week, you may notice moments when you drift.
Old thoughts may resurface. Old patterns may try to return. You may forget what you’ve been practicing.

This is not failure.
It is part of the process of growth.

When you notice it, pause gently.
Take a slow breath and simply come back.
You might pray again and again:

“Jesus, I return to You.
Help me remain in what is true.”

Then return to the truth you have been practicing.
Picture yourself putting it on over and over, each time you need to.
Let it settle in your heart, even if only for a moment.
Be patient with the process.
This is how roots are strengthened. Not by getting it right once,
but by returning again and again.

Over time, what you return to becomes what you live from.

As you move through this week, remember that God is not rushing your growth.
He is patiently strengthening what is taking root within you.

If you’d like, I’d love to hear what you’re noticing as you continue this journey. You can share your reflections as we walk this out together on the Mindful Mondays Facebook Page.
See you, with your favorite drink in hand, next week!
