Mindful Mondays: Time With Jesus Rooted and Radiant – Week Twenty-Six Reflecting: Presence Over Perfection

You can be with someone… and not really be with them.

You can hear their words and already be forming your response.
You can sit across from them while your mind is somewhere else entirely.

Thinking ahead – Solving something.
Trying to say the right thing and it’s not because you don’t care.

It’s often because you do.

You want to respond well.
You want to be helpful.
You want to get it right.

But somewhere in that quiet effort, presence can slip away.
Not all at once. Just enough to miss the moment in front of you.
Yet, when you think about the times you’ve felt most cared for…
it’s rarely because someone had the perfect words.

It’s because they stayed.

They listened.
They didn’t rush you.
They didn’t try to fix everything.

They were just… there.

And that kind of presence is not something we create on our own.

It’s something we receive.

As you’ve been walking with Jesus, learning to stay and returning again and again,
you’ve been experiencing His presence with you.

Not rushed.
Not demanding.
Not asking you to get it right before you come close.

Just steady and near.

Over time, that kind of presence begins to form something in you.

So when you sit with someone else, you don’t have to perform.
You don’t have to perfect the moment.

You simply begin to reflect what you’ve been given.

Not perfectly, but intentionally.

This is reflecting.

Not trying to be everything someone needs, but offering the gift you’ve already received.

Your presence rooted in His.

Scripture Reading

Let these words settle into your heart slowly.

Matthew 11:28–30 MSG
Romans 12:15 NIV/NLT

Pause and Reflect

Take a few moments to sit with what you noticed from Scripture. You may want to journal or reflect quietly. You might consider:

Where do I find myself trying to “get it right” when I’m with others?
What tends to pull my attention away in conversations?
When have I felt truly seen or heard by someone else? What made that moment different?
Where might Jesus be inviting me to slow down and be more present this week?

Soul Care Practice – Be Fully Present With One Person

This week, choose one moment each day to practice presence.

It doesn’t need to be long.

It could be:
A conversation at home
A quick interaction at work
A moment with a friend
Even a brief exchange you might normally rush through

When you’re in that moment, gently choose to stay.

Put your phone down.
Let go of what’s next.
Resist the urge to fix or move things along.

Just listen.
Just notice.
Just be there.

If your mind begins to wander, simply return.

You might quietly pray:

“Jesus, help me be here.”

That’s enough.

This is not about doing it perfectly.

It’s about practicing a different way of being.

Carry It With You

As you move through your week, notice how often you’re pulled away from the moment you’re in.

Not with judgment
just with awareness.

And each time you notice, gently come back.

Presence is not something you achieve once.

It’s something you return to again and again.

If you try this this week, I’d love to hear what you notice. You can share in the comments or join the conversation in the Mindful Mondays Facebook Group.

Stay close to Jesus in the middle of your everyday moments. I’ll meet you back here next Monday!
