Mindful Mondays: Time With Jesus Rooted and Radiant – Week Twenty-Eight Reflecting: Words That Build

Some words stay longer than the moment they were spoken.
You probably know that from experience.

A sentence someone said years ago
that you can still hear clearly.

A comment that landed deeper than expected.
A phrase that either strengthened something in you
or quietly pulled it down.

Words have a way of doing that.

They don’t just pass through a moment.
They settle.

And most of the time, we don’t realize the weight they carry while we’re speaking them.

We’re responding.
We’re moving quickly.
We’re saying what feels natural in the moment.

But as you’ve been walking with Jesus
something has been shifting.

You’re becoming more aware.
More attentive.
More grounded in truth.

And that begins to shape not just how you listen
but how you speak.

Because reflecting Him isn’t only about presence.
It’s also about the words we choose to offer.

Not perfect words.
Not carefully crafted responses.

But words that build.

Words that strengthen.
Words that remind someone of what is true
when they’ve forgotten.

And this doesn’t require a big moment.

It often shows up in the ordinary.

A sentence spoken at the right time.
A simple encouragement.
A quiet affirmation.

Small words
that carry more weight than we realize.

This is reflecting.

Not speaking more
but speaking with intention.

Scripture Reading

Let these words settle into your heart slowly.

Proverbs 16:24 NLT
Ephesians 4:29 NIV

Pause and Reflect

Take a few moments to sit with what you noticed from Scripture. You may want to journal or reflect quietly. You might consider:

What kind of words do I tend to offer most naturally in conversation?
When have someone else’s words encouraged or strengthened me in a lasting way?
Where might I be missing opportunities to speak life or encouragement?
What would it look like to speak more intentionally this week?

Soul Care Practice – Speak Encouragement Intentionally

This week, we become intentional with our words.

Not by saying more
but by choosing what we say with greater awareness.

Each day, look for one opportunity to encourage someone.

It might be:
Noticing something good in someone and naming it
Speaking appreciation out loud instead of just thinking it
Sending a message to remind someone they matter
Offering a kind word in a moment that could easily pass unnoticed

Keep it simple.
Keep it genuine.

You don’t need the perfect wording.
You just need to be willing to say it.

You don’t need to “muster it up,”
instead, you might pause and ask:
“Jesus, what would it look like to build someone up right now?”

Then respond from there.

Carry It With You

As you move through your week, pay attention to the moments where words could make a difference.

You may notice more opportunities than you expected.

Not big ones.
Just small openings.

A sentence you could say.
A truth you could remind someone of.
A kindness you could put into words.

You don’t have to take every opportunity.
Just begin to notice them.

And when you do speak, let it come from what is already being formed in you.

If something from this week stands out, I’d love to hear about it. You can share in the comments or join the conversation in the Mindful Mondays Facebook Group.

Keep walking with Jesus as your words begin to reflect His heart. See you back here next week.
