Mindful Mondays: Time With Jesus Rooted and Radiant – Week Twenty-Nine Reflecting: Slowing Down for People

Have you ever reached the end of a day and realized you accomplished a lot, but you barely noticed the people around you?

I know I have.

Life moves quickly.
There are schedules to keep, emails to answer, errands to run,
meals to prepare, and responsibilities that seem to multiply overnight.

Before we know it, we can find ourselves
measuring a good day by how much we got done
rather than by
how well we loved the people God placed in our path.

The truth is, many of us aren’t intentionally ignoring people.
We’re simply moving so fast that we don’t always see them.

Yet when we look at the life of Jesus,
we find Someone who was never in too much of a hurry
to stop for a person in need.

This week, we’ll meet a man named Bartimaeus who desperately needed help.
While everyone else wanted to keep moving,
Jesus chose to stop.

And that decision changed everything.

This Week’s Scripture

Mark 10:46-52 (NIV)

Let these words settle into your heart…

Pause and Reflect

As I read this passage, I keep returning to two simple words:

Jesus stopped.

The crowd didn’t stop.

Many people tried to silence Bartimaeus.

Others wanted to keep moving.

But Jesus stopped.

I wonder how many opportunities to reflect the love of Christ are hidden inside what feels like an interruption.

The child who wants to tell us one more story.
The coworker who needs someone to listen.
The friend who reaches out when our schedule is already full.
The neighbor who needs encouragement.
The person standing quietly on the edge of the room, hoping someone will notice them.

Not every request requires a yes. Healthy boundaries matter. Wisdom matters. But there are moments when the Holy Spirit invites us to slow down long enough to see someone who feels unseen.

Bartimaeus was more than a blind beggar to Jesus.

He was a person.
A man with a story.
A man in need.
A man worthy of being noticed.

The miracle began because Jesus was willing to be interrupted.

As followers of Christ, we are invited to reflect that same love in the world around us.

When we slow down enough to notice people, we create space for compassion, encouragement, connection, and sometimes even healing.

Who might Jesus be inviting you to notice this week?

Take a few moments to sit and consider the following:
(You may want to journal your thoughts.)

  • When was the last time someone truly stopped and listened to you?
  • How did that impact you?
  • Are there people around you who may feel unseen, overlooked, or dismissed?
  • What might it look like to slow down and notice one person this week?
  • Is there an interruption you’ve been resisting that may actually be an invitation from God?

Soul Care Practice – The Sacred Pause

This week, ask Jesus to help you notice one person each day.

Begin your day with this simple prayer:

Jesus, help me see the people You want me to see today.

Then pay attention.

When you feel rushed, pause before moving on to the next task or conversation.

Take a breath – Look up – Listen a little longer.

Ask one more question.

Offer a word of encouragement.

Be fully present for the person in front of you.

At the end of the day, spend a few moments reflecting with Jesus:

  • Who did I notice today?
  • Where did I see someone else’s need?
  • How did slowing down change the interaction?
  • What did You want me to learn through that moment?

Carry It With You

The crowd kept moving.

Jesus stopped.

This week, whenever you feel hurried or distracted, remember those two words.

Love often looks like slowing down.

Sometimes the most important thing we do all day isn’t crossing another task off the list.
Sometimes it’s noticing the person right in front of you!

Closing Prayer

Jesus, Thank You for being the One who sees us when others overlook us. Thank You for stopping for Bartimaeus and for stopping for us.

In the midst of busy schedules and full lives, help us not to rush past the people You place in our path. Give us eyes to see those who feel unseen, ears to hear those who need encouragement, and hearts willing to be interrupted by love.

Teach us to follow Your example. May our lives reflect Your kindness, compassion, and presence wherever we go.

Help us remember that every person we encounter is someone You created and deeply love.

In Your precious name, Amen.

Until Next Monday…

As you move through your week, may you discover the beauty that often waits on the other side of a holy interruption. And may you experience the joy of reflecting the love of Jesus to someone who simply needed to be seen.

See you next week, friends.
